Lavender

Lavender (Lavandula intermedia 'Niko' PHENOMENAL) is an easy to care for perennial that requires well-draining soil and bright light. Water it to create evenly moist soil. To do this, water when soil feels dry about 1/2" below the surface and water until the soil is thoroughly saturated, then allow the excess water to drain away. During the summer months, you may need to water it every 1–3 days, depending on the temperature and soil conditions. In winter, you may be able to water less often. Make sure the plant never stands in water or has soggy soil.

Lavender plants need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight every day. Lavandula intermedia 'Niko' PHENOMENAL should receive direct sunlight for up to 10 hours a day in order to thrive. When the temperatures are warmer in the summer, the plants should receive more direct sunlight for a longer period of time, usually between 7-11 hours a day. It’s important to provide a minimum amount of direct sunlight for lavender plants in order for them to produce blooms, as they won’t survive on indirect sunlight alone.

Lavender (Lavandula intermedia 'Niko' PHENOMENAL) should be pruned in late winter or early spring, prior to new growth. Pruning should be moderate, removing up to 1-third of the previous year’s growth. Pruning will help promote bushy, compact growth and encourage the formation of flower buds. Remember to leave the leaves intact to help protect the plant from cold temperatures.
