Double Impatiens

Double Impatiens feature thick, juicy succulent-like stems and have zero tolerance for drought. If the soil dries out completely, the entire plant will collapse and drop its rose-like buds instantly. Keep the medium consistently moist, like a perfectly wrung-out sponge. Water deeply at the base early in the morning. Hanging baskets and patio containers under Steinbach's summer breezes will require strict daily checking. Never let the pot sit in a waterlogged saucer, as stagnant water will rapidly cause stem rot.

This classification is peerless for bringing intense color to fully shaded environments. It performs best in full shade, dappled shade, or locations that only receive gentle morning sun. Avoid placing them in direct, harsh afternoon sun in Manitoba, which will instantly scorch the delicate petals, bleach the foliage, and halt flower bud development entirely.

Exceptionally low maintenance. Modern commercial double impatiens series are entirely self-cleaning; older faded flowers naturally shrivel and drop off on their own without requiring manual deadheading. No major pruning is needed throughout the season. If a plant becomes slightly leggy or overgrown by late August, pinching back the branch tips by 3–5 cm will immediately force a fresh flush of dense, compact side-branching and heavy autumn flowers.
