Care guides
Watering
Celosia Intenz features excellent heat and short-term drought resilience once established. Always allow the top 3 cm of the soil or potting medium to dry out completely before watering thoroughly until it drains out. Overwatering or planting in soggy, compacted soil will rapidly trigger root rot or stem weakness. During Steinbach’s high-summer heatwaves, monitor container pots daily, but ensure they never sit in stagnant water collected in saucers.
Sunlight
This tropical beauty absolutely demands full sun, requiring a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of direct, unfiltered daily sunlight. Maximum solar energy is the direct switch that maintains its ultra-vibrant, electric-purple flower saturation and prevents the mounded shape from stretching or flopping. Avoid planting in shade, which leads to weak growth and dull, faded plumes.
Pruning
Very trouble-free. While the sturdy firework-like flower spikes of Intenz last for months without fading, clipping off older, mature flower heads down to the next leaf node will instantly stimulate a fresh flush of multiple, vigorous side-shoots and heavy new bud sets. For a bonus, these clipped vibrant spikes can be hung upside down in a dark, dry room to create spectacular, long-lasting dried floral arrangements. Protect young plants from frost in May, and enjoy them until the final hard freeze in autumn.
