Calibrachoa Hula Gold Medal requires a "moist-but-not-soggy" environment. It is highly sensitive to overwatering and root rot; always allow the top 2–3 cm of the potting mix to dry out completely before watering thoroughly until it drains from the bottom. Because hanging baskets exposed to Steinbach's drying summer winds lose water very quickly, check them daily during July and August, but never let them sit in stagnant water collected in saucers.

To maximize its breathtaking flower canopy, place this variety in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily). Ample solar energy directly controls its tight, trailing habit and triggers the maximum color contrast between the golden petals and the dramatic dark eye. Growing it in partial shade will cause the plant to become loose, leggy, and significantly reduce its blooming potential.

This modern hybrid is completely self-cleaning, meaning older spent flowers drop off naturally without requiring tedious hand-deadheading. No major pruning is necessary through the season. However, if the trailing vines become slightly thin, uneven, or split in the center by mid-to-late August, you can give the entire plant a light haircut—trimming back the branch tips by 5–8 cm will instantly prompt a vigorous flush of fresh, dense side-branching and heavy new bud sets.
